LEGALISATION/APOSTILLE/DOCUMENT PROCUREMENT

LegalisationImmigration authorities often request work permit and visa applicants to provide them with such supporting documentation as Diplomas, Marriage and Birth Certificates, Criminal Record Certificates, divorce or adoption papers.

Although, for these public documents to have legal validity in another country they need to be authenticated by the designated authorities of the country where the document was issued in one of the following ways:

- by way of an Apostille stamp (Hague Convention aboilishing the requirement of legalisation for foreign public documents, 05 October 1961); or

- going through legalisation procedure;

APOSTILLE

Hague Convention aboilishing the requirement of legalisation for foreign public documents, 05 October 1961

Apostille is a far more quicker and convenient procedure rather than legalisation. Although it can be deployed only if the document is to be presented in one of the countries which are members of the said convention.

Please, find an example of the apostille stamp below:

LEGALISATION

In case the country in which a public document  to be presented is not a member of the aforementioned convention one needs to go through the legalisation process which involves obtaining a chain of stamps from responsible authorities finalized by a stamp of the “destination” country consulate.

LEGALISATION OF DOCUMENTS RELATED TO FOREIGN ECONOMIC ACTIVITY

Such documents as commercial agreements, documents of title, invoices and other documents related to foreign economic activity are to be legalized in a specific manner through the Chamber of Trade and Commerce. Legalization in the Chamber of Trade and Commerce is finalized by certification of the document at the consulate of the respective country.
